Anxiety in Children and Teens
We all experience anxiety at some point in our lives, such as an approaching big exam or interview. In fact, anxiety is a normal response to stressful events – at least until it starts interfering and affecting with our daily functioning.
Anxiety can look like and feel differently for each person. Anxiety disorders may include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias and panic disorders.
Approximately 1 in 12 children and 1 in 4 adolescents worldwide are affected by anxiety disorders. Risks of developing an anxiety disorder could include childhood trauma, adverse experiences, intense stressors and substance or alcohol abuse.
